Rumor: Jesus Ferreira Traded to Seattle?
Sounder at Heart blog reports that Seattle is in advanced negotiations to bring Jesus Ferreira to the Pacific Northwest. What do we make of it?
Social media sometimes drops bombs on you.
And then there is this:
Credit to Sounder at Heart for breaking this news… but what a moment.
Jesus Ferreira didn’t have the year he wanted in Dallas, spending a good chunk of it injured, unable to get into rhythm, but we know he is a DP worthy level player as a homegrown. He’s a legend at Frisco, even as the formation shifts in recent years did not always get the most out of him. The dream and expectation has been for him to go to Europe, but the offers just haven’t come from that direction.
Now, Seattle is trying to pick him up to bolster their roster and keep their streak of strong seasons going. Evidently, as the article points out, Jesus is in the final year of DP contract, so maybe Dallas isn’t interested in negotiating a new contract and Seattle is? Could this end up being a win/win with Seattle needing another offensive weapon and Dallas planning to shift to a new formation under Eric Quill?
The other key is that Jesus is still only 21 years old. He has lots of great soccer left in him, and I can imagine the frustration from him personally. Dallas front office staff claim to want to win championships but have struggled to put together really strong rosters around Jesus, Alan Velasco, and others. Injuries have played a part in that, for sure, but now with Petar Musa, it seemed like Jesus could be poised to be even more prolific with a true strike partner.
If… that is… Dallas sees him as a striker, not as a winger, or not as a 10, or who knows.
This is such hard news to swallow, and yet, echoing back to Kellyn Acosta’s departure, sometimes talented players need a change of venue to unlock who they truly are.
Don’t we just wish we could keep our best talent and win championships now?
Until then, we wait and see what unfolds.
If the club didn’t sell him to Spain a season ago for a reported 7-8 million euros then why are we trading within our conference for TAM/GAM? How much does Seattle have? He’s a HG so we would’ve kept a bigger percentage of the transfer. This is an example of keeping a player for too long like K. Acosta . The FO needs to figure out that sweet spot because I feel that we sold Tanner, Reynolds, Che, and Richard’s before they were ready.
Big mistake to trade Ferreira. What are we thinking? He is FC Dallas.
A long list of bad trades. Acosta. Drew Moore, Cooper, cerillo, McCarthy, Hollenshead and Nelson. Most have championship rings.
Ferreira is young!!!!
