Run It Back: John Gall Returns as North Texas Head Coach
We've been waiting for the dominoes to fall with FC Dallas' new head coach in place, and today, North Texas welcomed back John Gall for 2025 and beyond.
Without prepping the media much, North Texas today announced the next domino in the FC Dallas’ coaching quandary - John Gall returns as North Texas head coach.
Of course, John Gall started 2024 in charge after taking over late in 2023, and he wasted no time in leading his young side on a dominant run. When Nico Estevez was dismissed as head coach of FC Dallas in May, Gall got the nod to serve as assistant coach with Peter Luccin. That’s when Michel stepped in as interim head coach and guided North Texas to their first MLS Next Pro championship.
One nugget revealed in the press conference with Eric Quill was that Michel would move up to the first team staff, leaving lots of fans wondering who would take over North Texas, especially if Gall stayed with the first team.
Ultimately, it’s all settled. Gall gets to pick up a young and hungry side coming off a championship and continue to build his coaching pedigree. The former Dallas Burns practice squad player made it no secret that he would love to coach FC Dallas someday, so keeping him in the organization provides another name in the pipeline for the organization to consider.
The bottom line is that Gall really turned around a young team that had struggled under Javier Cano and in 2023. They fought and played with an intensity that we hadn’t seen since Quill was in charge. He’s a perfect fit as part of the organization’s efforts to develop youngsters and prepare them for more opportunities.
Super excited about this.
We’ll be trying to setup an opportunity to check in with Coach Gall next week and talk to him about the previous year and the opportunity to take charge again in 2025.
